Day 8 - Sept 16. Madrid - Escorial - Valle De Los Caidos - Salamanca
Breakfast. Check out at the hotel then depart to Salamanca with local guided visit to Valle de los Caidos. Cuelgamuros is home to the colossal Valle de los Caidos, or Valley of the Fallen, a monumental basilica and memorial erected to honor those who fell during the Spanish Civil War. Day 9 - Sept 17. Salamanca - Fatima
Breakfast. Check out of the hotel. A morning 3-hour half-day Salamanca tour. Begin the adventure at the heart of Salamanca, the Plaza Mayor. Marvel at the impressive Baroque architecture and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of this central Square. Salamanca Cathedral: Step inside the majestic Salamanca Cathedral, a stunning example of both Gothic and Baroque styles. Day 10 - Sept 18. Fatima - Lisbon
Breakfast and check out. Today visit of Fatima includes the sanctuary, the Basilica and the new "Santissima Trindade" Church, from the Greek Architect Alexandros Tombazis. Proceed to Valinhos (the site of the apparitions) and Aljustrel village, the house of the Shepherds. In the afternoon depart for Lisbon, a Lisbon half-day private tour. Begin your tour with a visit to the historical Belem quarter and see the 16th century Belem Tower (from outside) and the unique Monument to the Discoveries (from outside), a commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Prince Henry the Navigator death. Continue to the Jeronimos Monastery (from outside), a masterpiece of the "Manueline" Portuguese Gothic. Follow the Tejo river and see one of Lisbon's emblematic squares, "Praca do Comercio" and "Arco da Rua Augusta'. Continue to Alfama, one of the oldest quarters with winding and narrow streets, known to be the cradle of the Fado singing, an admire beautiful views of the 'city of seven hills. Visit the typical quarters of Bairro Alto, Chiado and Rossio and drive along Avenida da Liberdade, the city's "grand boulevard", to Pombal's Square and enjoy the view over Lisbon from "Parque Eduardo VI". If the group would like to visit the site from inside, please note that tickets are not booked for specific hours, so despite that group will have tickets at hand may expect up to 2-3 hour wait in line (less crows in midweek).
Day 11 - Sept 19. Lisbon - Sintra & Cascais Tour
Breakfast. A full day tour to discover the charming and picturesque town of Sintra that enchanted kings and inspired poets. Take a tour to the National Palace of Sintra. Walk through the narrow streets and appreciate the handicraft shops. Free lunch in Sintra. In the afternoon travel to Cabo da Roca, the most westerly point of Europe, and admire the unique scenery of the Atlantic Ocean, the Guincho beach and "Boca to Inferno". Continue to Cascais, a surprising and prosperous town and the most sophisticated and elegant area of the Lisbon coast. It is set along a beautiful bay of sandy and calm beaches, pinewoods, and dream houses. Historically, Cascais was a minor fishing port, until the Portuguese nobility transformed the town into a summer retreat, filled with grand villas and lavish venues. It was once also the most popular place for the old European royalty to spend the bathing season. Travel through Estoril before returning to Lisbon. Overnight in Lisbon. (B, L)
Day 12 - Sept 20. Departure: Lisbon - Los Angeles
